PwC Greece: Tame your data with AI

At PwC Greece, we use AI tools like GitHub Copilot to empower data engineers, boost productivity and drive innovation in system design.

AI has already made a significant impact in code generation, empowering developers to write code more efficiently, generate documentation and enhance the quality of their work, all while freeing up time for strategic decision-making. This transformation is equally beneficial for data engineers. As demonstrated in our workshop, AI tools like GitHub Copilot can be armed with metadata from databases. This provides essential context about the database semantics, enabling generative AI to help data engineers understand and traverse complex data concepts seamlessly.

During the workshop we conducted at Techsaloniki 2025, we showcased tools like VSCode and GitHub Copilot to illustrate how SQL server metadata (such as schemas and create statements) can be integrated with GitHub Copilot. This integration allows the AI to comprehend the database structure and use natural language to generate complex queries. By posing various business questions, we observed GitHub Copilot translate these inquiries into SQL queries in real-time, with high-quality outcomes thanks to its context-awareness.

Generative AI tools are clearly a game-changer for data engineers. They amplify their expertise and grant them more time to focus on designing and architecting robust and performant systems instead of getting caught up by repetitive coding tasks.

At PwC Greece, we are committed to continuously exploring and experimenting with emerging tools and technologies, particularly in the field of AI.
